ZitatAlles anzeigenIn 1993 the Islanders played the Penguins who were then, 2 time defending Stanley Cup Champions. They won the series in Game 7 on an OT goal by David Volek.
That Penguins roster had:
Mario Lemieux: 69G 91A 160P. Maybe the best hockey player ever.
Jaromir Jagr: 34G 60A 94P. The only remaining active player from this series, HOFer, top 10 scorer all time.
Ron Francis: 24G 76A 100P. 4th all time in scoring, HOFer
Kevin Stevens: 55G 56A 111P.
Rick Tocchet: 48G 61A 101P
Larry Murphy: 22G 63A 85P. HOFer
Joe Mullen: 33G 37A 70P. HOFer
Tom Barasso: 2 time champ, top goalie in the league at the time.
Coached by none other than Scotty Bowman who is arguably the greatest coach ever. Maybe Al is better .
To put things in perspective, that team had 6 hall of famers. If you recall, the Islanders were without their leading goal scorer, Pierre Turgeon, who was injured after a cheap shot by Dale Hunter in the first round. The next leading scorer for the Isles was Steve Thomas who had 87 points. After him and Benoit Hogue, no one else had more than 52 points. The Pens were second in the league in goals and 3rd in the league in goals against. They finished 1st in the Patrick Division.
I wish, WISH I could see a playoff series preview leading up to that series. I imagine it would look EXACTLY like this. Everyone likely thought it would be a blowout, and for good reason! On paper the Penguins should destroy the Islanders. And that is where the old cliche comes in. THIS IS WHY WE PLAY THE GAMES. Glenn Healy stood on his head and the Isles took it in 7. Is anyone here going to tell me that the match is now more lopsided than it was back then? That Penguins team is arguably one of the best to ever lace em up. I put em right behind the Habs, Oilers, and Isles dynasty teams. The fact that they could even be mentioned in the same breath is remarkable. If the Isles from 93 could beat the Pens, why the hell can the Isles from 2013 not? That isn't to say its likely, that isn't to say I think they will. It is simply to say do not write us off.
History should serve as a lesson to anyone who thinks the Isles have no shot here. Because its series like this one, that have the potential for historic upsets
absolut schockierend so en bricht vom Tagi! Hät sicherlich bi GC nie öppert so erwartet!!

de streit wohl wiedermal starch gspielt...![]()
ZitatThat's why the fact that we let a point slip away tonight is inexcusable. How in one night do we go from thoughts of 5th place to 8th? It all came down to one goal from some defenseman I've never heard of, and one terrible game from our irresponsible captain.
ganz e schlächti rundi gsi geschter...
aber ich ha doch ei vom virus welle...
Ich glaube d'Isles krieged Boston. Und d'Habs vs. Leafs. Ich glaube au d'Rags werdeds no schaffe.
Isles! Bitte d'Habs!!!
Virus, gratulier mier gfälligscht!
Füürpolizei lol. Das Stadion müesst vo dene eigetli gschlosse werde.
de vero bruucht dringend mal 2-3 spiel pause.
